Fashion | Best Dressed at The Met Ball Gala 2014, NYC.

I absolutely love red carpet events, not that I have been to one, but what I mean is, when you wake up the next morning and look at your various news feeds they are often coveted in gorgeous dresses (particularly from The Met Ball Gala, I’m not talking about the soap awards or NTAs) but something a bit more fashionable… an event where Anna Wintour is present.

I am quite busy with university deadlines at the moment, so I thought I would share with you my favourite outfits from this years gala, than write a half arsed review on a product I have been loving. I want to keep the standards high, ya know?

Anyway here they are… drum roll please…

First off we have one of my favourite actresses, Blake Lively, not only is she married to my dream man (sorry Tom) but, she has been a firm favourite of mine since The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, and don’t even get me started on how amazing she was in Gossip Girl.

I absolutely love this dress by Gucci, the colour is stunning, very understated but she dresses it up with a statement ring. The detail on the back is also quite interesting and really adds something different to an otherwise very simple dress.

Next up Sarah Jessica Parker…

This dress is very extravagant, but I wouldn’t expect anything else from SJP or Oscar de la Renta. She looks amazing, the dress really compliments her figure, and her ‘updo’ shows her beautiful back off as well as the simple pearl details on the back of the bodice. The white gloves add a touch of elegance, I definitely think this is something Carrie would wear, reminds me a lot of the wedding dress from SATC movie.

Another Gossip Girl favourite of mine…

Leighton Meester, she was always my favourite in GG, always perfectly dressed. My favourite outfit was that gorgeous Valentino red dress she wore when meeting up with Chuck Bass at the train station. SO glamourous. But this dress looks effortlessly chic, there were a lot of nudes throughout the evening, but this dress by Emilio Pucci (and shoes by Jimmy Choo) has added glitz that makes her stand out beautifully.

Kendall Jenner…

Admittedly I don’t always like what Kendall Jenner wheres but I think for the gala she looked stunning. The dress is actually by Topshop, and I just think she looks really sophisticated. Beautiful.

I had to include this GIRL…

Lena Dunham of course. The dress is by Giambattista Valli Couture, it is such a lovely take on the LBD. What I absolutely love about Lena is how comfortable she is in her skin. She isn’t your typically skinny actress, she is curvy and beautiful, and knows exactly what to wear to compliment her curvaceous figure.

A little Aussie goddess…

Kylie Minogue in Marchesa… a lot of the dresses this year were very simply with small detailing to really give the wow factor. I think this dress suits Kylie down to a T. Her milky skin is offset by the gold detailing, so many celebs can get it wrong with the accessories but the clutch bag and Harry Wintson jewellery really add an elegant touch.

And last but not least…

Anna Wintour in Chanel. Now this wouldn’t be my first choice of best dressed, nor would this dress look good on me. But the dress is very Anna Wintour, her hair fits in well with the patchwork detail, and with a dress like this it is best to keep accessories to an absolute minimum… and how convenient not to have a bag… as I think that would ruin the outfit. Maybe she listened to Coco Chanels’ advice after all..

“Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”
