Event| #DYOPreLaunchParty.

WOW, where to start with this post!? I am so enthusiastic about this upcoming project this is probably going to pour out of me incoherently, apologies in advance!

Yesterday after my last lecture of second year (can we just take a moment to appreciate this!) I rushed over to Nancy Bordello’s to get stuck in with DYO Fabulous Jewellery. We were greeted with wine, sandwiches and cupcakes, which were absolutely delicious and made by my favourite bakers in Newcastle, The French Oven, you can find them located in Grainger Market, selling gorgeous homemade pies and patisseries. It was so lovely to see some old (& new) faces, I was amazed to see just how many #nebloggers there actually are. We tried on so many gorgeous pieces of jewellery, took photos and took part in a lucky dip – where I won a lovely rose quartz bracelet, I really should have photos of it but you will see why I don’t in a moment. After milling around nattering and drinking wine, Janet – the creative director and founder of DYO Fabulous Jewellery – gave us a lovely talk on what inspired her to start the business, and the journey she has taken to get to where she is today, she took great pride in telling us that all her of jewellery is ethically sourced, unique and made here in the UK. She made a very good point of saying all the jewellery on the high street is basically a replica of each other, and is most likely made in sweatshops around the developing world. This is the sad reality of mass produced clothing, materials and jewellery made in massive quantity.

Janet put this on me pretty much when I came in, and I completely fell in love with it.

A close up of the ‘rock’ that was around my neck.

Gorgeous rings! Such a mixture of semi precious stones and acrylic.

Amy with one of the necklaces on – again beautiful!

Some bloggers from the evening (I am terrible with names so tweet me if this is you – I will add your blog link)

Playing the lucky dip!

The whole point of the event was to show us a preview of a new aspect of the website, now this is the bit I am overly excited for! Launching in July is a section on the website that looks a little bit like this…

And this is the special part, through the website you can design your very own jewellery, so if you are getting married or attending a very special party and you need a piece of jewellery to go with it well you can design it so it matches PERFECTLY, and it is at very affordable prices – no where near as expensive as walking into your jewellers and breaking the bank – there are over 200o different options, and it does sound a bit overwhelming but the site is SO easy to use, and who doesn’t love spending time and care creating something completely unique to you! I know a few people that read my blog that will definitely be excited about this (Caroline and Hallie I am looking at you!) I will be revisiting this when the website goes live to hopefully give you a better chance to understand the excitement!

After the chat some of us were signed up to the masterclass where we got the opportunity to design our very own piece! We all designed princess pendant necklaces, I won’t take you through the process as it was stressful enough actually doing it, so I took some photos instead.

Before I started, the booklet with all the answers! Never that simple though …

I was so over the moon when I had completed my necklace, it is stunning and it is so ME. LOVE IT. Got there in the end. I want to say a massive thank you to the DYO team, we all truly had a fabulous time, and it has honestly been one of the best blogging events I have attended – I loved how hands on it was and enthusiastic Janet is. Good luck for the launch girls!
